Locating something to be thankful for at all times is an essential part of trauma stewardship.
Remind yourself that while the suffering may seem endless, so is what you have to be grateful for. It may be less obvious now, and finding it will take a more creative approach.
Viewing our most challenging circumstances as our teachers can be pivotal. Feeling grateful for what you are experiencing may seem like a stretch, but what is the alternative to gratitude?
If we do not feel God has honored us by giving us a gay child, the alternative is that we may end up on the road to feeling like God owes us something that we are entitled to or that we are being persecuted.
That is not a road that goes anywhere we want to go.
