Restorative circles convey certain important ideas and values by their very structure. The parents in the circle are experiencing varying degrees of spiritual trauma. As a facilitator, your role is crucial in guiding participants to speak their own truth and listen receptively to the truth of others, fostering an atmosphere of trust and understanding. Your contribution is invaluable to the restorative circle process.
It's crucial that you download the guide for facilitating a restorative Circle of Hope, available in the Facilitator Guide tab on the website. As a facilitator, it's not just important; it's essential to familiarize yourself with the 11 Circle of Hope Boundaries and the Guidelines for Asking Open Questions. This preparation will equip you to effectively guide the restorative circle.
It's highly encouraged for both parents to access the Participant Circle of Hope Boundaries, download, print the document, and bring it to each session. Each lesson includes an image of the Circle of Hope Boundaries. It's important to project and keep this image visible for easy reference during the session if possible. Adhering to these boundaries is not just a suggestion, it's a necessity to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
If a participant strays from the guidelines during the discussion of a prompt for a Topic lesson, gently intervene and remind them by asking them to rephrase or restate their contribution in an honest, open-ended question.
